Ok maybe not just for cowards, im hoping this will be usefull to anyone and everyone who plays and give new players a boost towards thinking as a ship commander.
First im going to discuss the ins and outs of attacking ships from different sides. Assume that i am talking about a dreadnaught class ship.
Front: Ok, im sure its obvious that this is the most risky side to attack on almost any ship. This is where a ship will mount its big guns so attacking from this side can be risky. However don't discount it. I have sometimes deliberatly gone for the front armour so that when support arrives the dreadnaught in question has weaker front armour and does not want to expose this armour to your support; this also means they cant use their front mounted weapons. I call this tactic "breaking the nose".
Sides: Attacking the side of a ship ususually provides you with a nice big target and in open warfare this is the facing of a ship i will usually attack. However there are still weapons mounted on the side of some ships so be careful!
Rear: The rear is the most obvious angle to attack from. The camera rarely faces this way so they may not see you approach and there are almost no weapons facing the rear of a ship. However the back can be quite a small target so when attacking with slow moving torpedoes or missles consider attacking the side armour instead.
Most important point when choosing a side to attack. KEEP ATTACKING THAT SIDE! When the armour on that side is reduced to 0% you can start doing hull damage from that side which puts u in with a chance of killing the ship.
Other points and tactics:
-Hit and Run. This tactic is most commonly employed by low defence ships and forces such as the Ku'lth. It allows you to attack a ship whilst taking minimal damage in return. Unless you are Ku'lth though and can cloak it can drain jump fuel quite fast. It may also take a few runs to kill anything.
+How to perform a hit and run: First choose your target. then jump in and release a volley or two of gunfire. Then emergency jump (Shift+J) out of there first ensuring you aren't heading into a planet when you jump. Repeat steps if nessacery.
-Fleet suprise attack. This is what it says on the tin. A group of players bunch up and attack a target at the same time. When doing this try to pick a side for you all to attack as this will result in hull damage being taken faster. Also esure all of you attack at the same time. By all attacking at the same time before your target is aware of you you can monopolise on that "free kick" where he can't fire back.
Thats all for now folks and i hope it helps.

Well, I hate to point it out, but oh well.
DO NOT HIT ICC SHIPS ON SAME ARC.
To effectively kill ICC ships, two or more ships hit two arcs. This limits the amount of energy that an ICC pilot can migrate from arc to arc. If you all attack from one side, you get to take on all of his shield, hull and armor (assuming the ICC pilot is worth a damn). Instead, by hitting more than one arc, the most you have to peel thru is 50% of his shield (assuming 25% per arc, migrated to either suffering shield). Should I point out that it isnt as easy as saying..."I want all my energy in the left arc dumped into my fore arc, and my right into my aft". So, basically, this effectively nullifies much of shield migration by ICC.
When shields are gone, sure, fire same arc all you want. But initially, to peel the onion, find seperate arcs.
Is this something only a few 'Luth vets know? I always wondered that......

Get 4 Siphons and 4 Krills, all of them with 8 x AWMs.
Attack a single human station, or a couple of dreads.
That's called ganking.
