Every month we will be running a new screenshot competition. We are looking for quality images that showcase the DarkSpace graphics and game features which can be added to the existing screenshots section of the site. Players are free to enter as many images as they wish, subject to the following conditions and restrictions:-
1) All screenshots must be of either 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution and be submitted in JPEG format.
2) All screenshots must be original. Resubmitting screenshots from previous competitions will result in those entries being discarded and possible disqualification of that entrant from the competition.
#Exception:- Screenshots posted in the incorrect format can be re-entered into the next competition provided they are correctly formatted as per the instructions. Feel free to contact the Event staff if you have any queries regarding this rule.
3) Screenshots may not contain foul or abusive language.
4) Doctored or edited screenshots will not be accepted.
5) Only screenshots from the current Release or Beta version will be accepted.
6) We can only host screenshots that show officially supported features. For this reason we cannot accept any screenshots containing custom graphic effects.
Prizes:-
Each month the Staff will select entries to be awarded with prizes. Particpants will receive a 100k Credit Coupon for each entry which is approved by the judging commitee as suitable for the screenshot section. Out of these winning entries we will select a Grand Prize Winner which will receive an additional 14 Day Coupon and 2,000,000 credits, two runners up who will get 7 days and 500k credits, and 7 other top ten screenshots who will each receive 3 days and 100k credits.
We may also offer additional rewards for people who submit a series of screenshots along with a storyline that provides an explanation of the events depicted or for other innovative idea's.
Suggestions and ideas:-
We are looking for screenshots of things that can be encountered during the normal gameplay and show aspects that aren't necessarily already covered in the screenshots section.
Although you are welcome to set up and prepare screenshots on your own servers, please bear in mind that they have to reflect things that are actually possible and not just the results of scripting.
Not everything needs to be 100% serious. However, when submitting humorous screenshots try to consider whether someone who is unfamiliar with the game will understand what is happening.
How to enter:-
Please upload your screenshots to http://www.imageshack.us and post the 'Thumbnails for Forums (1)' link they provide you with in that months 'Monthly Screenshots Submissions' thread.
Each competition is open to previous winners.
Staff will also be allowed to enter the competition, but will not be able to vote on thier own submissions. We reserve the right to reduce or otherwise limit the number of awarded prizes in the event of insufficient submissions, or a lack or entries that fall within the desired quality levels.
The competition will be open to submissions for 21 days. The Staff will then decide on the winning entries and post the results within 7 days of the closing date.
'How to take a screenshot' and other useful commands:-
To take a screenshot ingame just hold the 'Alt' key and press 'T'.
To toggle Armor rings and the movement indicatior press the '/' key.
To disable all onscreen diamonds hold down 'Alt' and press 'C'.
You can use Numberpad keys '1', '3', '7' and '9' to toggle the corresponding displays.
To clear all message text from the screen use the '/flush' command in the chat interface.
Screenshots are saved in a .tga format in the Darkspace directory on your harddrive (by default this is C:program filespalestardarkspace) and need to be converted to .jpg format before being uploaded. you can do this using software such as Infranview, Paintshop Pro or other popular image editing suites.

No. They can be artistic or representative of the game; we need both, since they'll be on the website.
Though, a note to Crimson/Backslash in regards to their "GTN fun" post - edited ships or things that aren't possible in normal play probably won't win. Not going to rule it out completely, but probably not; like I said, we want things that showcase the game as it really is.

The event doesnt start until Sunday people. You will need to resubmit your entries into the Official thread once it is posted.
This is just a thread for the rules and for answering any questions people may have before and during the official launch.
I will respectfully ask peoiple to remove any submissons in this thread.

They are fun, and we're happy you're enjoying making them, but we won't put them on the website's screenshots section.. Feel free to keep posting them in the forums, though.
