Sources indicate that the V'ladimir Confederacy Armada recently captured an alien vessel during a skirmish in the Barnards Star system.

In a statement last night, Vice Admiral Leonide, of the UGTO Sector Command, confirmed that the VCA were involved in repelling some K'Luth forces.

"Early this morning a VCA taskforce engaged and destroyed a number of K'Luth vessels near Isemene. Such deep penetration into UGTO territory is clearly uncharacteristic of K'luth operations, but we urge citizens not to panic. There is no indication of a serious K'Luth threat to the Barnards Star system," the statement said.

He was unavailable to confirm the capture of any K'Luth vessels.

Although UGTO Command are refusing to comment, our contacts assure us that a large - possibly "Station" class - vessel was captured and is currently being held at a secure facilty near Maurbon.

The vessel is believed to be of a previously unknown design.

A new focus

Given the recent rise in the number of hostile encounters along the UGTO borders, defense forces have been working hard to maintain spacial security.

Chancellor Mato last week released a new political mandate along with the following statement: "We have been mistaken in engaging ourselves in protracted military campaigns. They waste resources that are better spent elsewhere... It is the small battles that count in promoting our influence and culture to the unaligned worlds. We need to show that we can provide the security that the other factions are incapable of offering."

This abrupt turn around in policy was sparked by the catastrophic failure of the Ceti Bridge campaign. However, it is unlikely to be enough to for Mato to retain his role as Grand Chancellor for much longer.
