The UGTO scout building eternity drifts silently through andosia space, its lights out, engines silent. It rolls around on its axis, basking in burn's fading light. One side of the ship is as smooth as ever, as polished as it was when she came out the sol shipyards. The other side is a shamble of exposed hull decks, cross beams and the hardend inisde structure of the craft, marked by burns and deep gashes....

The captain of the ship, Commander William Locke, had trouble calming the shaken crew of 35, most of whom were fresh recruits from Vesper. The young men and women serving on the Building Eternity had never been on any starship that actually engaged in any combat with the K'luth. The corvette suffered heavy hull damage on its port side, and while they could slow the ship atmosphere's leaking into space, they needed a supply ship to patch up the larger holes in their hull and armor.
Locke had a short look at the ship system monitors, seemingly trying to deny that the damage wasn't so bad. The ship's AI, 'Mercy,' appeared on a pedestal as a monochrome-blue hologram of a middle-aged women. 'She' repeatedly announced the bleak statistics concerning the time they had left, how long it would take to repair the jumpdrives without a supply ship, and other generally bad news. 'At least that's still working,' thought Locke, half annoyed, but half pleased that their ship retained the 'sentience' they all had grown comfortable with. Locke moved from the bridge to the communications computers. There he found Jacob Sterne, the communications officer, looking at the bloated red star that filled the view. At Locke's order Sterne quickly broadcasted a distress signal, which was somewhat of a risk; should the K'luth find the signal and triangulate their position, they would all die a swift death. However, as Locke and the crew acknowledged, if that supply ship didn't reach them in time, they would all die very soon, with or without K'luth...:

Edit: Sorry, it seemed shorter while I was typing it :/

Meanwhile in a K'luth ship a few hundred thousand GU away...

Slowly orbiting a friendly planet the "Shrouded Truth", an old Ganglia class dreadnought refitted as a science vessel, was performing deep scans of the Andosia system by orders from the Hive. No details had been revealed other than that a heavily damaged UGTO scout possessing vital information for the UGTO High Command had just evaded the onslaught of the "Baby Tooth", a fitting human inspired name for a fang class scout ship that had been recently refitted and upgraded especially to counter the latest human advances in small ship defenses and weaponry.

Suddenly, the sciences and psionics communications officer's screens on the Shrouded Truth saw a short EM surge, then nothing. The signal hadn't been broadcasted long enough to pinpoint it's location, but it was unusually strong, as if someone wanted to make sure to be heard, but didn't want to be tracked. "The signal comes from somewhere in the Andosia system Fleet Admiral" thought the communications officer. The Shrouded Truth captain pondered his next move... No friendly ships were nearby. This old, although trusty, Ganglia wasn't up to par with the latest human dreadnought designs and lacked the weaponry and defenses to face even a few human destroyers, but it was the only one within 2 gate jumps of Andosia and this EM surge was probably coming from the UGTO scout that got engaged by the Baby Tooth. After a short silence, a psionic wave engulfed the ship:: "Engage the cloak, prepare to leave orbit and plot a course for the Andosia system..." *looks to the psionics communications officer* "...Send a message to the Hive, we're going in, also, tell them we're gonna need some firepower over here if things turn sour."

The Fleet Admiral then glanced outside his ship, marveled at the beauty of a class 3 Nebula, his favorites, and then thought as a lightning light up the view, creating a strange soothing atmosphere and mood on the bridge and consequently the other decks through the psionics links on the Shrouded Truth : "The calm before the storm".
