My writing style is sucky at best, but here is my idea for a rough history of how the jumpGates throughout the MV were established. It is as yet unfinished. Feedback welcome.

May 7, 2268: Research into the technologies used aboard the K'luth vessels, specifically thier advanced Antimatter Jump Drives leads to a major breaktrough. Scientists discover that it is possible to create stable wormholes that should theoretically be able to transport solid objects. However, enormous amounts of energy would be required to generate one of these wormholes. The JumpGate Project is sanctioned by Grand Chancellor Mato two days later.

June 2, 2268: The construction of the JumpGate Research Station in the outer orbit of the Sol system commences.

November 5, 2268: JumpGate Research Station is completed ahead of schedule. Rigourous testing of all components and systems means the the pilot activation is earmarked for late November.

November 28, 2268: The pilot partial activation of the wormhole generator commences and is deemed an extraordinary success. At 13:43pm SST(Sol Standard Time) the research and engineering team managed to create a stable wormhole 2 nanometers across which lasted for 3 milliseconds.

December 11, 2268: On the back of their successful testing the R&D team decide to go for a full power activation 2 months ahead of schedule. Humanities first self-sustaining wormhole is created. Preliminary testing shows that the intense radiation makes transmission of signals via the wormhole impossible. However, matter CAN be passed through. Tests on biological specimens prove fatal.

January 21, 2269: Using technology adapted from the inertial stabilisers in starships, the first successful transportation of a biological specimen through the JumpGate Reasearch Station wormhole is completed. The heroic hamster is called Nimby.

March 1, 2269: Richard Faustus Lyle becomes the first human to travel through the wormhole. He traverses the remarkable distance of 300 meters without any noticable side effects. Having established that the ends of the wormhole can be relocated without any noticable effect on stability, a new starship is commissioned to transport the maintenance machinery.

June 27, 2269: The newly refitted ST-210a Heavy Transport 'Caluga' arrives at JumpGate Research Station. The machinery is attached to the underside of the Caluga and is encased in its own dampening field. Various live specimens are loaded upon the transport, including Nimby. JumpGate Station area is evacuated for the most dangerous test to date.

June 28, 2269: The unmanned Caluga initiates its Tachyon Drive and the wormhole machinery enters hyperspace at precisely 06:00am SST. The Caluga fails to exit hyperspace when expected and is deemed lost. However, the JumpGate Station wormhole remains active. Probes sent through fail to return.

July 3, 2269: The Caluga exits hyperspace 8000gu short of its targeted location. It's internal systems report the date to be March 17, 2316. Carbon dating confirms that this period has elapsed for the Caluga. A month of further testing resolves no further issues with the maintenance machinery or any other side effects. The wormhole continues to function as normal. Unfortunately Nimby and all the biological specimens aboard had died. The Caluga was saturated with lethal radiation during its period in hyperspace and completely sterilised within seconds.

September 12, 2269: After a full overhaul and review of the Caluga's navigation systems, the JumpGate R&D team believe they can compensate for the innaccuracy of the Caluga's navigation systems while carrying the wormhole module. Another test jump is carried out. And the unmanned Caluga emerges from hyperspace 6 days laters precisely on target. Again its internal systems report a substantial differential in the onboard time. The increased radiation shielding, however, proved ineffective.

February 19, 2270: The Caluga is sent on its final journey. This time it is unmanned and targetted at the outer periphery of the Alpha Centauri system. A second wormhole generator is completed at Jumpgate Station. Attempts to activate the device are a complete failure. The proximity of the first Sol JumpGate serves to destabilise the generation machinery. Meanwhile UGTO intelligence receives reports that there has been major a security breach at JumpGate Station. ICC spies have managed to steal top secret documents including the research and complete plans to the wormhole generators. ICC have subsequently begun thier own wormhole construction project in the CD+36*15693 system.

April 22, 2270: The Caluga eventually arrives in Alpha Centauri. The extreme ageing of the ships systems causes several catastrophic failures. Fortunately the Caluga is able to eject the wormhole module before its IE drives meltdown and cause the transport to self destruct. The maintenance machinery suffers mild damage from the explosion but no critical systems are affected and the wormhole is towed to a secured docking station in outer-system orbit. Repairs and upgrades are made to the maintenance machinery.

May 14, 2270: Enchancements to the maintenance facilities enable the expansion of the wormholes event horizon allowing much bigger cargoes to be sent through. A modifed scout ship has been constructed at Bifrost Shipyard and refitted with the upgraded inertial dampening system.

May 27, 2270: At 14:15pm SST the Scout class vessel 'Shigernafy' becomes the first stellar capable vessel to pass through the Sol Jumpgate to Alpha Centauri. Inter-stellar trade between the linked systems is now a real possibility.

October 9, 2270: Sol Jumpgate is relocated to a more accessible location in the Sol system so that it doesn't intefere with further wormhole research at Jumpgate Station.

October 30, 2270: Jumpgate Station begins to undergo a thorough refit and expansion. A localised shipyard is constructed to enable research and development to proceed more rapidly.

November 3, 2270: On the back of the enormous achievement of the Sol Jumpgate, Grand Chancellor Mato announces a program of rapid expansion throughout the UGTO territories. Major corporations are encouraged to contribute towards the construction costs in return for access rights to the portals.

January 8, 2271: The first ICC wormhole tests prove a great success. The ICC hurry to catch up with the burgeoning UGTO Jumpgate network and establish their first interstellar links. The blueprint modifications for the dampening systems are publicly released in an effort to encourage all Farstar corporations to begin upgrading to wormhole capable ships.

August 4, 2271: Several teams responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Jumpgate platforms have been reported missing throughout Human colonised space. Infiltrators in the K'luth run espionage division indicate that K'luth are responsible.

2272 CE: Various gravitational anomalies are reported in the Ross 148, Barnards Star and BD+4344 star systems. The causes are as yet unknown and seem to originate somewhere within the Nicea region. Early expeditions to the Nicea region were forced to turn back when it was made apparent that nebula's around the HL-223xa, OE-34-d and Nicea systems made navigation extremely hazardous. Although suspected to be resource rich systems, both UGTO and ICC governments had deemed it not worth the risk or investment.

March 12, 2272: The UGTO Scout Ship 'Fates Legacy' exits hyperspace three light months from the OE-43-d system to perform more detailed analysis. Gravitational readings show that matter density in the Nicea Region has reduced dramatically when compared with the early explorer missions. Automated survey drones are sent to report data on the OE-34-d system. They return after three days with some startling information. The Fates Legacy slowly proceeds towards OE-34-d.

March 23, 2272: Fates Legacy arrives at its destination. As they approached they were able to confirm the information provided by the survey drones. Two terran class planets have been located orbitting the systems central star, yet this is regarded an unimportant discovery when compared to the widescale devastation that is apparent. Both planets have been severely irradiated. Detailed surveys show several rapidly evacuated K'luth settlements on both planets. Most life within the system is in an advanced state of decay.
Most extraordinary is the discovery that the nebula surrounding OE-34-d has literally been shredded leaving a half-moon crescent of gasoeus cloud. The Fates Legacy returns to Barnards Star to report it's findings. OE-34-d is subsequently renamend the Crescent system and the planets are named repectively after Captain Louis Salamander and Lieutenant Commander Michigan Darknight.

Throw in all the math and physics if you so smart

And if its already there...my bad I was too lazy to read it.
