I'd suggest what it says:
"please run the 'darkspace setup' to check your client settings"

Would be useful to know your computer specs, as well as the contents of Trace.log in your DarkSpace directory.

hmm, i never look at trace.log and i know my computer can be pretty stupid at times so i think i will look at the trace.log thing.

EDIT: well, i dont see trace.log specifically but i do see trace. its content is shown as followed:
02/22/12 19:19:31 : DisplayDeviceD3D created!
02/22/12 19:19:32 : DisplayDeviceD3D destroyed!

im not sure what this means though. help?

As Pantheon stated, it would be helpful to know your system specs.

Also anything you have already tried in order to fix your problem.

And mention if there is anything that has changed with your system, ie operating system, video card, etc...

Should probably make sure drivers for both devices are up-to-date.

After updating drivers on older graphics cards or operating systems, the DisplayDeviceD3D ID can change, meaning DarkSpace is looking for a display device that isn't there.

To fix this, you can run in windowed mode, or re-select one of the resolutions in the list. Otherwise, a reboot will fix it as you discovered.

I had this exact same issue after Nvidia updated, restarting fixed it right away though.

i normally run in windowed mode. when it told me the error and to check my client settings, i did and i looked at displays and nothing was there, even in the drop down menu. well at least the reboot fixed it and the list of resolutions are back.
