Normally the DS client consumes around 300-500 mb, but I have detected under some special conditions for example "driving" one station in the battlefield my computer gets "fried" due memory usage of DS Client, apparently under this conditions the amount of memory goes up to 1000 freezing the machine. Theorically when the memory usage surpass the "1000 Mb" physical, the memory system goes for "virtual" memory, more slow. Sometimes a programming error cause a process to allocate huge amounts of memory, consuming all the RAM on a system, maybe DS has a little "bug" that provokes that problem.

I have to say that when Im playing DS I "CLOSE" all programs including my antivirus and firewall to avoid problems. I have checked my memory slots, motherboard and videocard (all ok). I have checked my system free of virus, spyware, adware, malware ...

My configuration;

Darkspace Release Version: 1.483.6
Windows XP Pro SP2
Pentium 4 - 2.4 Ghz
1.024 Mb RAM (2 x 512 RDR modules) - Original Kingston
Creative Geforce 4 Ti 4200 - 128 Mb
Oficial Nvidia Drivers Forceware 93.71 (last version)

Any suggest? Any idea? Any experiencing something similar?

Something's wrong with your machine. DarkSpace should not, and will not use that much memory. I have 8GB of memory, and client.exe has NEVER, EVER passed 200mb.

You've either disabled your page file, or have one so small that Windows can't swap out the DS textures to disk to free up memory.

I'm affraid this is an issue on your end - one of which I cannot understand. DarkSpace doesn't even have 1GB of data to put into main memory. Hell, DarkSpace, Medusa AND GCQL combined roughly take up 1.12GB of disk space, DarkSpace alone cannot.

So again, it's something on your end. Something on your machine, or running in the background (could be a Windows process, or something you think you've shut down) is taking up memory, and isn't letting go of it.

As backy mentioned, check your page file size:

right click my computer -> properties go to teh advanced tab, then click the settings tab under performence

I think it should be 1/2 your RAM size, but windows likes to make it all your RAM size.

ive played this game on a friends computer "which REALLY sucked" without any problems what so ever and it was
{the only reason I say it sucked is cause he had the smallest monitor Ive ever seen}

Celeron 434MHz
Nvidia GeForce 32MB P.O.S
128MB RAM
A real dinosaur

But Ive never seen it use more than 300mb but ususally more like 120 I run everything at its highest w/ temporal AA 6XAA 16XAF and adaptive AA at full, on my 4100+ @2.6GHz with 2048MB of DDR2 667 @725 and my X1600Pro 512 MB @628/864. and it runs great even in battle with like a hundred missles on the screen.

But this game is not a very big resource hog.

2.5x the size of your physical memory.

This morning after reading the post, really I didnt suspect on hard disk (it was bought on September), but after reading us remembering me the "pagefile" I decided to test then I have checked the hard disk and I have found some "bad clusters" apparently windows scandisk didnt detect them, I'm sure I have found the problem, then it is comprehensible the strange memory usage, as soon as pagefile tries to access or enlarge it cross the "bad sector zone" and it makes unstable the machine.

The recommended values for SYS pagefile I use

Minimum 1,5 x physical - 1536 Mb
Maximum 2,5 x physical - 2560 Mb

Thank you all.
