I just signed up for darkspace and got the game going.
I check my mail and it says i have a 14 day free coupon.
Whats the main differance in free play and regular?

To clarify: Using your 14 day free trial coupon is the same as if you paid for it. Prestige will be gained as normal, you will go up ranks and be able to get bigger ships, etc.
You can still play when your free trial runs out without paying, however your rank will be Midshipman (allowing you basic ship access only) until you resubscribe or use a coupon. If you do that, you get your old rank and prestige back again. All stats are saved as long as you log into the website at least every 6 months I think. Might be a year.

when i press validate....it gives me a plain black i.e. window...and that's it.

Your email isn't validated, though I think we've covered that by now.
Plus, you have already received a free coupon for your Saver account (which is currently in newbie, in fact), so you're not eligible for another.
