Felt there should be one thread with everyone's "can't"s.....
If my case.....
Can't get on the MV....it always ends up "disconnected"...and I've yet to see a Sockettrace.log....personally I don't think it exist.
Can't play in either newbie or admiral for long before it locks up and I'm stuck even flying off in a straight line or going around and around and around in a circle.....of course the going THROUGH planets is kind of interesting but it loses its favor after awhile.
So ya see I can't play the game I'm paying for.

its a step in the right direction, but its still whining.... at least without the threat this time.
being official again
Cant there be a restriction to how many whine posts each person gets?

So one cannot complain about not being able to play a game one pays for.
Where can one complain then.......in MMPOG maybe......you people are Palestars worst excuse for public relations I've ever seen. Of course this game will get nowhere if they allow people like you to run off their paying custormers. Of course I'm not leaving yet......
In any case....
I can't join any server at present.....none of them.

Drak,
Just curious if you could find a online bandwidth test, and measure your internet connection bandwidth for me and post it to this thread... (just goto www.google.com, and search for "bandwidth test")
I'm still tweaking the timeouts for the UDP communications layer, and plan to implement some more intelligent code so that it doesn't disconnect dial-up users.

Faustus couldnt you make it timeout ONLY if no data was being recieved...because obviously this is a timed timeout thing....cant it be so that instead, the server just disconnects them if they are recieving no data...and if its really slow and the user wants to stop, why not have a cancel button?
Just a suggestion I dont know how DS works that well

now this is progress =)
and big F i really dunno much about coding so i wont use any code lingo...
to my understanding its
Client: Gimme MV status
Server: Here ya go
Client: i want updates
Server: here ya go
Client: gimme selection screen
Server:here ya go
Client:let me play...
Server:here ya go
why not have selection screen right away with a loading bar at the bottum....
im getting this idear from StarWars Jedi Acadamy...
this way the cancle button would be there...
but heres a far out idea i just thought up.
Client: Gimme selection screen
Server:Right-o
Client: i want this ship and this system
Server: Here you are
Client: oo00ooo lyuten updates... slurp (players ingame now)
Server: oh your ingame and everythings running, heres the rest of the MV updates....
this way, youd join the system u want, and while your ship gives you helm the server can be updating the MV in the background.
no wait. (noticeable wait)
only side affect, the map wouldnt work for a little while
dunno me not a coder so i dunno if its even possible

I don't know why I think this... but I think the MV updates as a whole entity, not so much in little bits, and does so on a timed cycle. I really don't know, so don't quote me - just my impression

actualy, you only get things from withing a certain range...thats why the /focus command was implimented...
You set it to 3000 and you will recieve data from 3000 gu in a diameter around you. No other updates will be recieved unless you click on that object. An area of 3000 gu will then download itself to you, and you will see the planet data (if you are clicking on that), unfortunatly this doesnt work for ships in teh area on the nav map only. But so far it seems to work fine .
Faustus is the system of "no data, bybye" being implemented, or are you still working on creating a perfect timeout time?
