I've been away for probably the last 10-15 years now. In 2004 I built a gaming rig that was top-of-the-line in it's day and used it for several years before it's untimely death. I recently removed it's sata drives and mounted them into my current gaming rig, and promptly struck a trove of ancient, digital treasures.
I found a small fortune in hundreds of original GTN era files(i.e. original member signature files), flash, random DS related stuff, as well as original screen shots from the R33 memorial event(Missing Man formations).
I do not know if Demorian still possesses these files or not. If anyone is interested in them, let me know. I'm still drudging through another 160gb of files on these drives. When I'm finished with them, I will organize all of the DS, and GTN related files. Once organized, I'll be able to compress everything into a single file for anyone to download. Until then, anyone interested in seeing what I've found so far, can reply to this thread, send me a pm(the forum can still do this I hope), or email me at kenetiks@gmail.com.
I am all too happy to grant any inqueries or requests. Just let me know if you're looking for something in particular(e.g. finding your old GTN signature jpg) and if I have it, I'll put it on my home server, and provide you with an ftp, or http link.
When I'm done searching the drives, and organizing the files, I will reply to this thread with a link to a compressed archive of everything I have.

I've updated the files to be accessible via both ftp, and http download. Neither service is faster, so there isn't a performance issue between the two. There was however a gateway router issue that deleted the route for the ftp server. So I've made them available to download directly from the webserver as well just in case.

Well, I made some progress after my post last night.
I found the original GTN website(circa 2005). This site was the original GTN website from around the early 2000's, and updated 04/2005 when Demorian brought GTN back after the fleet had dispanded a year(Demorian will have to confirm how long GTN was disbanded). The site includes all of the current and past GTN member signatures that are available.
I also found the R33 memorial page with the aforementioned screenshots from the memorial event.
I've put what I've currently organized online.
All of the GTN sigs are available to download in a compressed archive, or you can browse them. For those who are currently in GTN but don't have the any of the original blank signatures, and would like to make your own; I've made an archive containing the 54 original templates I have. You can download them here.
I've made the GTN website available online in it's entirety here, or if you'd like, you can download it.
You can view the R33 Memorial page if you'd like to, or you can download the files from here.
There are still some files left for me to sift through. When I add more files, I will update this thread.

Glad to see you back Ken! Amazing stuff too, the intro to the GTN website still gets me pumped up.

Mind? Quite the contrary. It would be greatly appreciated to help me preserve pieces of DarkSpace history. Given your computing knowledge, I'd venture a guess that you probably run at least a home file/media server and probably have some cloud hosting. So, I'd appreciate anyone mirroring the originals as well. The more copies floating around, the less likelihood of some catastrophic event that results in us losing this small, but significant part of Darkspace history. It doesn't even necessarily have to mirror the website, as long as the original archives are available.
You'd need to speak with Demorian to see how he feels about mirrors going up. I doubt he'd mind at all of course, but it is nonetheless polite to ask(Which I failed to do, but I saw no harm in the original GTN website getting archived with the others. So, consider this a slightly belated request for permission Demorian. *chuckles*). The only stipulation I ask is to mirror all of the original, compressed archives; make them available to all.
I will leave them accessible to the public on my private ftp server(links in my second comment as well), and are as follows:

For whatever reason I'm timing out when trying to connect to the ftp of all the files (is it on a non-default port?). I'll try again tomorrow and see how it fairs!
Good man for doing all this! Somewhere I have chatlogs going back to 2004. I don't think those will ever see the light of day though.

For whatever reason, no external->inbound connections to Osiris(my lan fileserver) could be established. It is working perfectly fine for internally routed addresses(e.g. ftp://anonymous@10.0.x.x/). This was working fine the other day. I went and checked the xfer logs for the ftpd. They are showing at least some people have connected and downloaded some of the files, but they abruptly stop with no further connections happening from day before yesterday onward. I went through all the usual suspects like the IDS, and checked the iptables to make sure nothing funky was going on(IDS makes use of iptables). I had thought that maybe my IDS had locked down the ftpd for some reason. Since all other services were working internally, and wan accessible services were also answering(except for the ftpd).
I was about to make a very ugly workaround by just linking a web directory to the ftp's directory tree(http://osiris/~kenetiks/pub->/dev/ftproot/) for a short time so you could at least grab the files when I decided to have a look at the gateway router. The only machine on my lan that needs to answer any wan queries is Osiris, and even that I restrict to certain services for security reasons. Instead of opening the gateway, and dumping all inbound traffic completely onto Osiris(which I'm sure you'll agree is asking for trouble), à la DMZ; I only forward certain traffic to it. At any rate, somehow the gateway router had disabled the routes for ftp, but not for anything else. I have no explanation of why this occurred.
At any rate, the issue is now fixed. However, given I have no idea why the gateway randomly disabled only a single route, I'm going to err on the side of caution and make the files also accessible via http download as well as ftp. The ftp links are staying the same, and then I've made copies available to download from the webserver.

I don't believe it is an issue of preserving your "silly designs". For me—and I'm sure Jack will more than likely concur with my reasoning—it's about preserving a period that we're most found of. DS was my grand discovery that a space mmo could actually be fun. It was the discovery of what was hands down, the greatest mmo community I've ever encountered. To this day it remains unrivaled to me.
So when I watch these old swf files, see an old picture, play an old sound file; I'm taken back there to the fondest memories of gaming I have. Anything I can do to help preserve that for others, I feel is nothing less than a responsibility to bring a little bit of happiness to old bittervets like myself.

That was way too serious of a response, haha. I totally understand and appreciate why you want to preserve it. From my perspective, it is a tremendous compliment, because they're all incredibly dated designs that came from my hand and my computer. So THWBPTWBTPT.

What you did was valued in the DS community. GTN was as much a band of brothers and sisters as one could conceivably get in a game. You made many excellent choices for membership. We had some of the best players DS had to offer. In my humble opinion anyway, but perhaps I'm biased.

That's awesome sir.
When I dug these up, I had completely forgot that they were on those drives. I've found tons of amazing stuff. Including logs where several people and I were chatting about the game we wanted to build. I'm not sure you remember it, but it was during a time that several DS players who each had a particular skill got to talking and thinking about building a capital ship simulator. I had licensed a game engine, and had begun on one of the stages of development(on the fps portion). We didn't get very far because I had to shift my own priorities. Anyway, I've found screenshots, fraps videos, the engine and source code. It's all completely outmoded now, but it was fun playing around with.
And, there's still tons more stuff on that drive. Even a few fragments of irc logs(as well as a couple of pics of people I used to know from IRC) from the late 90's. I keep everything. I'm a bit of a digital packrat.
