Hello!

Noticing some recent forum posts and questionable things said in such posts, I've decided to make a short guide that's to the point. I fly everyone and know how stuff works in the game, and not everyone likes my opinions.

First, you need expectations when flying. These will serve you well.

1. If it's cruiser or smaller, you probably won't kill it.
2. If it's a dread that just jumped in, probably free kill!
3. If you're using a dread, ensure that you will survive for 2 minutes.
4. Dreads are probably not a good idea.

Now, when shooting ICC, more expectations:

1. Shields will regenerate very fast.
2. Point 1 means that you will rarely ever get a kill.
3. Railguns can be laughed at.
4. You'll get out-maneuvered.
5. Energy warfare is least effective against ICC.

Identifying your target:

Does it have 2 rings of shields? This can be determined by looking at how many blue rings are on the ship. There are 3 types:

A. Even all around and relatively thin means one layer.
B. Thin and Thick means 1 layer and auxilary gens. They have less power.
C. Thick and very thick means 2 layers AND auxilary gens. Even less power.

Now, you need to indentify the weapons loadout. In general, this will become quickly apparent by the engagement range they seek and what they shoot at you. Common ships that aren't so obvious:

Strike carrier: Cannons, fighters and ECM. Double shields. No armor.
Heavy missile dread: Missiles and ECM.
Line dread: Cannons and missiles.
Flagship dread: Cannons and auras.

Tempest cruiser: Torpedos.
Storm cruiser: Beams. Double shields.
Border cruiser: Cannons. Double shields. Ewar.
Light cruiser: Cannons.

Cutlass destroyer: Torpedos and missiles. Double shields. No armor.

Sniper frigate: Missiles, ECM, cannons.

Even though some ships carry double shields, energy warfare is not going to be an effective choice.
Shields are split in to three distinct types:

Active: High HP, medium power drain, low regeneration. Standard on most ships.
Reactive: Medium HP, low power drain, medium regeneration.
Skirmish: Low HP, high power drain, high regenaration.

Don't use EMP cannons. They don't hurt anything except subsystems. They will not hurt shields. Flux beams will.
ELF beams get a 150% damage bonus against shields. Spam them. If they're using skirmish, you'll also kill their power.

Weapons that ICC love to use:

Cannons.
Close the range - they do equal damage afar as up close. ICC guns are generally a joke and do horrible damage, but use little power. Gauss can hit out to huge ranges(1500 stock) while rails shoot to about 1200. Beam ships of the same size are a good idea.

Missiles.
Long range - 1500 for high damage, 2500 for low damage. If you're on UGTO, ensure you refit to Longinus defence beams, not ER beams which are default. I've seen countless UGTO die to missiles because they neglected changing their PD beams. For cruisers, minimum range is 500, so once again, beams. K'luth have it easy - cloak away.

Torpedoes.
Fusions seem terrible and they usually use SABOT rockets. consider them a shorter ranged, higher damaged railgun. Getting in close with beams will still work.

Fighters.
ICC have the worst fighters in the DPS department, but their carriers are made from pure nokia. If they're using carriers, it will probably be inside a dictor. UGTO should use artillery carriers or agincourts(or just give up) while K'luth should try using mines or the usual sneak in spam spacebar tactics.

Beams.
ICC beam ships are actually decent. They do the same damage as UGTO beam ships - no damage disadvantage. They'll also outmaneuver you. Energy warfare can work on beam ships. Mines may be an interesting solution.

What you don't use

Missiles.
Pulse beams and pulse shields will mock your pitiful attempts to get past the best PD in the game. In general, pulse beams will get 2 attempts to shoot down your missiles (or 3 for station missiles) and have a 150gu range stock. Ouch. ICC never take anti-fighter beams because the pulse shield hits them easily.

Mines.
Yes, I did contradict myself a little here. Some ICC players are plain bad and will forget to spam V as soon as they start to come in. If you're fighting braindead zombies, mines will work. Otherwise, pulse beams and pulse shields will laugh maniacally as your clouds of mines explode at a safe distance.

Things to abuse

ICC come second on the 'EWAR fighting ship spam' scale, behind K'luth. Combining this with their preferance of a longer ranged play style, it can be very easy to use ECM yourself to hide your forces. This works best for luth, who have ships like the Naga and mauler.

Combat dreads are pretty terrible, but the new pilots get them. New guys in bad ships is free prestige. Kill kill kill.

Line dreads only have 1 arc of shields on the rear. Kill kill kill!

Ships with double shields and little/no armor have a bad habit of moving all the shields on to one arc leaving 3 open. Shoot that hull!

Skirmish shields may regen fast, but they will vaporize under focus fire. Work together as a team to drive them off fast.

I've noticed a lot of ICC randomly fire their pulse shield. Abuse it however you see fit.

ICC generally fly terrible ships. Heavy cruisers are literally meat for a beam ship. Combat dreads are terrible.

All of their Ewar fighting ships, bar the strike dread, are pretty bad. Border cruisers have laughable damage and bad energy, stealth cruisers no guns.

TL;DR / Recap

ICC are fun to shoot at.
You won't kill much.
Shields regen zuperfast
ICC barely hurt(excluding missiles and beams)
Some ships have terrible rear armor
Combat dread is terrible
ICC PD will laugh at you.

Afterword from Azreal

Spelling it out from those who couldn't figure it out from the above article,

'The best way to kill ICC is to attack on two or more arcs.'

If you're new, annoyed or returning to the game from forever ago, I hope you find my guide useful and to the point. If you wish to complain about the contents please call 1800-You'rewrong.

Happy hunting.

Also, storm cruiser vs. dessies, and interceptor vs destroyers, and also let us not forget the venerable torpedo destroyer, and any number of ships that can be used to counter the ravager frigate, or the destroyer classes. Ultimately, the ease with which you will kill an ICC pilot, a k'luth pilot, or a UGTO pilot, depends on their familiarity with their ships limitations and their own experience and yours.

In other words, gain more experience and you will probably survive and kill more.

Speak for yourself lol. Nothing like an ELF destroyer to ruin their day.

Just target center mass.

tbh, if you want to cramp ICC cruisers' and dessies' styles, just bring a piercer with the "slow enemy manuverability" mods on. Does wonders for keeping them in the center of guns.

Missiles and Mines will still murder ICC if you have an ECM Scout/Frigate in the area of the target ships, they can't PD what they can't see and the best they'll be able to do is blindly fire off Pulse Shield.

Pretty much. Then again a Scythe or Mauler is a general purpose answer to most things.
