The model in beta for UGTO Cruisers looks awesome, but will this model be a complete replacement for the current build's UGTO Cruiser model like currently in beta, or can we expect some of the layouts to use an updated model styled like the current model in live? Just wondering.

There's a whole lot of new ships so the new models will be split between them, but it's not a total replacement as some of the layouts will be using the same models we're used to, just in updated/optimized forms.

There was some confusion on this, so I'm not entirely sure, need an official response.
One person said that it will be the new standard model, another said it was only supposed to be for certain types of cruiser...
One advantage of the new models is that they are much more effeciently done, the old ones had a lot of hidden geometry that did not need to be there (which becomes obvious when you cloak a kluth vessle) It would still be a shame to do away with the old UGTO cruiser entirely though, maybe they could stick around as T1s [ This Message was edited by: Fluttershy on 2013-06-21 16:17 ]

This is the new Standard Variant. The old standard will still remain as far as I'm aware, but it's being touched up. The new standard will be used by more ships than the old one, hence why it made more sense to replace it (easier job for Walrus and Jim).
The lore behind it is generally that UGTO have far more resources to produce custom or new hull designs, hence why the ICC have "bolt on's" to slightly differing hulls, whereas UGTO have significantly different hulls with some sharing parts where it allows (for example: missile variants of the standard hull).
K'Luth are a different matter and we look upon them as having to evolve a new breed of ship which takes time, but can differ widly compared to anything they have. [ This Message was edited by: Pantheon on 2013-06-21 20:23 ]

To expand on what Jack said, basically each class of a hull type will have its 'Standard' model or variant , in addition to its other special role variants. The original UGTO cruiser will still be around in its standard variant, as well as other variants with hull modifications and features depending on the role.
That said, while UGTO has more resources in hand, they still operate like a corporation which will maximize the ROI of its investments. This means that while they may not reuse hulls with bolt-ons as extensively as ICC, they will still have variants of the same hull where it suits them best.

Since we're on the topic, here's a comparo of the new UGTO cruiser, the ICC M230, and an untextured raw model of the old UGTO cruiser, just for a size comparison.
Enjoy...
