They were down sized simply because they were too big... if the current ICC CDs to scale it (the stat) about 1.75 km or just over a mile.

New-style ICC dreads are about 1.5km long according to the ship recognition charts.

other space-games
Eve online: capital ships >1km, supercapitals up to 18km
homeworld: mothership (not a station) 4 km
homeworld 2: 3 km

anyone else notice how insanely out of proportion the planets are in DS compared to the ships lol.
Yeah yeah i understand if it was 1:1 the server would die and planets/suns would be insanely large.

Of course, the charts aren't completely accurate anymore: ICC Destroyers are nearly the same size as ICC Cruisers.

I noticed that, too, but I just assume that the old dessie has longer antennas than shown in the picture
