When i got to 1st rear admiral, i was excited due to the fact i could use a heavy cruiser. I thought this would mean more firepower than a destroyer. Apparently i was wrong. Lets compare the Layouts of a HC and a CD.

HC: 2 Heavy Railguns
CD: 2 Heavy Railguns

HC: 4 Railguns
CD: 4 Railguns

HC: 2 torpedo launchers(99% sure)
CD: 4 torpedo launchers

HC: 4 Beams
CD: 2 Beams

HC: 20 max speed
CD: 25 max speed

Clearly here, I would pick the combat destroyer over the heavy cruiser simply because the 2 more beams and tougher hull simply to not justify losing the 5 knots of speed and 2 torpedo launchers of the Combat dessy.

I would suggest maybe upping the Heavy Cruisers armament a little bit. Maybe at least giving it the 2 torpedo launchers it is lacking compared to the dessy?

Thx for reading

The destroyers have updated layouts, the cruisers will be next

also there is something called hull levels
bigger ships have more hull levels, more levels mean different equipment stats

a heavy rail gun on the combat dessie deals LESS damage than the on heavy cruiser, but fires MORE faster, for the icc that means the destroyer runs out of ammo quicker
the heavy cruiser also has more armor and stronger shields, plus more actual structural integrity (hull hp)

the hull levels were made to cut down on projectiles, as without hull levels the bigger ships would need more guns to be as powerful as they are

(i think) all weapons are leveled
-> the bigger the ship
the more dmg per shot
the more energy-usage per shot
the longer the cooldown between each shots
the more ammo
the bigger the sig-increase while recharging

As stated, most of the discrepancy is because of the ship layout rework process that's currently underway: the development team is working its way up in terms of ship classes, so Destroyers are currently revamped but Cruisers are not, leading to a mismatch. Many changes involve focusing ships more narrowly on their intended task; in this case, the Combat Destroyer is focused on Combat and thus has had most auxiliary gadgets stripped out and their space replaced with weapons. The HC will have the same treatment and should be a more competitive ship once completed.

As for leveling, ships increase in levels as the classes progress. Generally speaking, an increase in level means that:

the gadget gains more HP and thus is less susceptible to system damage;
damage per projectile increases;
energy use per volley increases, which directly affects the signature increase from recharging the gadget;
the time between volleys (cooldown) increases; and
ammo decreases.

Some weapons also:

change how many projectiles there are per volley;
change the speed of the projectile;
change the range of the projectile;
change the falloff of the weapon (though this is mostly to adjust for different ranges).

The exact effect varies by the weapon.

Poor, poor SABOTs. I don't see what's wrong with the glass cannon MD getting up close and personal.

i have always wondering about this whole lvling thing. i remmber back when you could mainly lvl your guns they went to like lvl ten. so i know they been removed but was curious like you could get a dessie lvl 10 weapons but now it is based on ranke so my question is this. is there a diffrence let say if a grand admrinel is flying a dessie as opposed to a lt.

no, weapon-level is determined by the ship-class

scouts are lvl 1
friggs are lvl 2
and so on

And what about upgrades? If the HC has 8 Advanced Defence Upgrades and the CD has 8 Advanced Weapon Multiplexers, (not saying that they will but if so, ) It would determine on the pilots skill level and strategy.

The CD's weapons are a bad match for the HC's shields and armor. And when both use enhancements, as you said while quoting yourself, then the destroyer finds it harder to beat the cruiser, simply because its weapons were of a lower level than the subject's defenses. The enhancements' multipliers widen this gap.

Also, is that a self-quote i see? FAIL.
