Now that DS is free 2 Play, are you going to start introducing In-Game ads to pay for the Internet and stuff?
I mean you can't have an Online MMO with out money. So: In-Game Ads?

A prospect?

Sponsors could have planets, even whole systems named after them. Those big burning balls of gas that no one can fly into: perfect billboard space for antacids or Indian take-aways.
Anti-kluth weapons could be brought to you by Raid, Roach-motel or similar bug/vermin exterminating companies.

Hopefully not, but if any; ad integration would most likely occur on the website or GCQL(unlikely).

I've always known DS to be one of those games where everything about it had something to do with the game, or how it's played, could be improved, discussions about the people who play... everything never had anything to do with an ad. No distractions except for the occasional flame war or something. If it gets to the point where they put in ads to support the game I'll redistribute my expenses and make a couple of accounts just to subscribe them. (I'll miss having dinner though)

DS... has always been there I guess? I grew up with it n I wanna see it stick around at least.

Actually, if they DO implement ads, I'd like a day or two of warning xD

This is a really great idea. Especially if focus is made on increasing the playerbase. Advertising on parts of the game that are most viewable and doesn't interupt their overall gaming experience:
Splash Screen, Faction Select, Ship Select, Gas Giants, AI Ships (could use an advertising rotation script that spawns different ships with different company logos and names at different time intervals for specified durations). You could design specialized marquee ships for this task so that its easier to configure ads to display on the ships, and also design it so its easily read in the MV.
Random text or banners in the chat room that fit inbetween chat text every 5 or 10 minutes.
Unique enhancements become buy items
Name your ship option for a fee
Adopt a planet for a specific amount of time for a fee, maybe this would give the player ability to rename that planet

There are so many different ways to market off this game it makes me crazy. Just needs a little focus on some other areas first like i said, playerbase.. and really it isnt that difficult to pull people into a FREE game that is as good as darkspace.

We want to avoid in game adverts as they will not bring anything to the game universe, other than annoyance, and getting sponsors to pay for them is another problem entirely.

We are currently pursuing the micro-transaction route...
