Well as i know most of ds player dont play on beta for reason i really dont know . I feel like i have to inform you about beta. There some drastic changes in beta that i wouldnt like to see.


First of all , ship balance. They are balanced in some way that low rank players will always get killed(better make GA before 1.5). Ship cant be moded anymore.Instead of p cannons u can only mount emp cannons. You can not mount anything instead of standart chemical laser. Cant mount missiles instead of torpedos nor otherwise.Ead and AD has 4 core weapons. Kriss (new kluth ship) has 7 SI on it . Fuels on ship droped to between 2k and 5k .Ugto cd has hma with 8k fuel.Station cant open wormhole to next system(only does reach from home planet to gate).Ugto destroyers bring beacons on them and cant be changed for something else. Ecm, eccm and scanner only can be changed between them. You can not put anymore generators. Battle dread has 2 qst on it . Ead has 3 flux beams which cant changed with other weapons.Kluth frigate Nimphy can kill ugto and icc frigate in same battle without getting hulled(just did it). SS type of stations have 2 core weapons. Cant see small ship from 100 gu away even with ecm off.

Ds is getting very predictible.

Is this the new version of DS we want to see?

First off you need to understand that the 1.500 beta of darkspace will be changed after it is releace. Right now we are really just focuseing on Graphics, Balance and lag issues. After 1.500 is releaced I am sure we have all intentions to get more wepons for each faction and introduce more content that will broaden the array of content. Just be patiant I know it has been a long time and it still may be a long time longer. But keep your hopes up.

I don't think this will be a staff endorsed poll, but I'll chip in anyway.

Players have a tendancy to break things. They find ways to circumvent mechanics put in place to keep things ship-shape and healthy. Put simply : players are a bitch.

In every version of DarkSpace where there has been a bug - players have been there to abuse it; and it's not fair to ask the moderators to police the game to an extent where they'd have to watch everyone with eagle eyes to make sure they don't exploit such bugs.

Things like Escort and Picket Destroyers, Torpedo-Missile Dreads and the blatently obvious bombing issue, are too hard, and too many, for the moderating team to fix. They do not get paid, and a lot of them do not have time to police the game 24/7 (and the sollution is not always to get more and more staff to do the job).

It's the developers job to fix these holes, and for the first time in a very long while, DarkSpace has several figures in the community who can work on the game alongside Faustus to fix the menial tasks so that he can spend more time fixing the engine, and other issues.

As mentioned earlier, players abuse holes that are left in the game. We have plugged these holes in 1.5, and changed the game so that it focus' much more around the first designs. That being combat, combat, combat.

We've slowed down bombing, so that it takes longer, and requires a fleet of people to do it at a 'quick' pace.

We've locked down modding ships - instead we're giving you variations of ships so that you have a ship with all sorts of weaponry - but not vast amounts of ones that end up breaking the game, and being abused. That being said, we've realisticly limited the 'upgrading' of weapons. IT missiles can be swapped out for AR missiles, or vice-versa. We like things like this - it allows a player to change his play style, without changing the function of the ship. It's still a missile ship - but it can be a short range, or long range one. It's not designed to be a torp-fitted ship, so we've stopped the Torp>Missile changing nonsense.

We've lowered the jump fuel in an attempt to force team play, and to limit movement in the MV. Why? It's really quite simple - in the current version, a team can circumvent all the systems the enemy has 'pain stakingly' (lets face it, it's not hard in 1.483) captured. We don't like this. We don't want it. We want you to have to go system, by system, by system, to get to a factions home system.

We don't like the idea that you can end up anywhere in the HUGE universe at any point in time - so we've stopped that. Wormholes are meant for ease of travel in-system, instead of universally. Coupled with the jump fuel change, we intend for this to create front-lines, where action ferments, and develops.

Many of the changes you see, are there for a very good reason. Making changes is time consuming, and can at times, be tedious - so we tend not to make them unless we have to, unless ofcourse you're Drafell or Shigernafy (*cough* Gaifen/Nexus *cough*).

Your general overview of 1.5 is very limiting, and to be very honest, rubbish. It is in no-way finished, and much more work is to be done to it before, and after its release.

stuff i agree on:

everyone in 483 mods ships because simply everyone else does making a tough opponent u mod to bring yourself to they're level

in 1.5 noone can mod witch means that everything is still the same just as even except u dont have to spend credits or time modding your ship just think of it as "pre-modified"

there is the fact that lower ranked people will have a problem with higher ship classes (the way its really ment to be) even tho i dont agree that 2:1(example 1 dread vs. 2 cruisers) is the right ratio maybe like 1.7:1 since a slow moving target attacked by 2 slightly smaller more agile ships should stand little chance but 2:1 is close enough

things i dont agree with

the WHs only stay insystem i think that if they want to nerf them they should let u still be able to travel 1 system and for good reason, to avoid mined gates.

the other thing i will greatly miss is the map editor i love creating my own solar systems and flying a spaceship through them it was one of the things that really hooked me on DS in the first place and i really hope it will be brought back to life

I think point isnt how many changes u have in beta , is how drastic and big are the changes.

As developers, you gave us 1.480-4 and now with 1.5 you are attempting to change game in a way of we are not use to play. This is my point.
