Why can't you add some NPC enemy ships or something? I know you only have a small team of programmers but still adding a few NPC would greatly improve game play. It's extremely hard to level in this game due to lack of players. I couldn't get very far in this game, thats the one reason why I quit. So adding a little more flavor to this planet building game would greatly improve population growth.

One more thing... When new players come into the game they have nothing to do. They wander around with no enemies to fight, they can't build they can't do anything at all. Why wouldn't they quit?

First off NPC in a PVP game?
but the idea is nice but the current game is giving the NPC AI a to hard time to survive. ranking/leveling should be a challenge not a walk in the park.
you can kill a AI dread in a corvet if you plan it correctly, a player dread v/s a AI dread is just a couple of salvo's for the kill.
So thats why no NPC in game.
The NPC concept is not put in the garbage-bin but, the idea is in the fridge until this game is balanced properly.
But the developers might give you a more insight of possible future plans, if your interested.

| all player know the staff is aware of this problem.
Heck almost every player knows this. and some of them DO quit themselves.
But what can we do about it. putting NPC in will only result in exploitation.
And growing a playerbase is not something you can magically arrange.
But i am just a humble player, maybe a staff can give proper comments.

The current AI in the game click on a target, and mash spacebar.
They also turn randomly. I think they try to keep the front of their ship pointed at the enemy
ICC ships don't even shield rotate.
Newbies should be given supply ships, that way they would at least be helpful and people would be friendly to them

also new players are meant to play on the newbie server or admiral first so they can try building and such.... MV is really meant to be played by players that have a feel for things now

I'm pretty sure that newbe players don't like the newbe server that much. First off the newbe server has no one to fight..
Second a newbe doesn't have a building ship.
Third Extracting is the most boring thing a newbe can ever start off with.
Tell me how many times do people actually battle in this game? Like once every other day at most.
Adding some npcs will only enhance the game. Let say it's a fourth species. When you go out npc hunting others will too thus more battles. When everyone meets the npc and players all will battle it out not just the players against npcs.
So I think it's a good idea. If I'm missing a point why npcs would destroy the game then let me know. Cause if this keeps up the game will selfdestruct.
I love this game because I love space. This game really makes me think about our future and space technology. If I were playing this game single player it'd at least have some npcs. Playing a game that feels empty just doesn't make a player want to play. It's like going to play foot ball all by yourself. What I mean by empty: You go through all the gates in the game and you meet no one. No one comes out to fight. Meaning supplying and battleing are out of the question.

Now I'm not quite sure where you got that idea.. Fighting is a lot more common than that

I agree that NPC does seem to bring out certain problems of expoitation.
However, think that a price worth paying to have something to do in MV during our "low" player times.
I would really appreciate having some NPC's to fight when there only 6 players wondering around in the vast MV.
U know, to have some thing to do besides bombing and building on these late nights.
Darkspace should be a game where u can go into the game at any time and find SOMETHING to fight.
not just the peak hours during the day.

Ok here is just my views about the NPC err Rats
1. Sure they have there problems.
2. It would be nice to go though a gate and to once in a while have something attack you for no reason so you can call for help.
3. it would be nice because after the players are done picking off the npc they will quickly turn on each other as has always happened.
4. NPC err rats are meant to be dumb. Heck even the eve rats are dumb...
5. it keeps players hooked and or gets them hooked by the feel of combat.
6. it is always embarrassing if you get killed by one. Manly because there dumb.
7. It makes combat more popular and people would have something to do every so often.
That was just some things I though about listing.
