First lets take a look at the new person playing..
If all goes right they go through the tutorial and then into newbie for a few to get familiar with the game.
For most this is an enjoyable part of the game as it has so many aspects on what you can do in the game.
So you slowly gain pres and then can take out some other ships.
Try going into the mv tho as a captain or lower and get killed.
This brings us to pres loss.... previous versions didn't have this enormous pres loss. Looking at other profiles of more seasoned players you can see this as thier pres is off the charts. Most of the GA's have so much pres that they can never be knocked down a rank.
Now enter our new player again. Lets say he just reached 1RA, got his jump cruiser out, modded it and goes on a bombing run. Due to whatever reason (mostly lag or bugs) he gets killed, he looses more pres, gets demoted and cannot use that ship anymore. So he goes back to a destroyer class and bombs a few more planets (if he's smart) for some quick pres re-gain. Ranks up again and then starts the whole process over. Strangely enough he finds himself stuck at a rank where he is not getting anywhere while the upper ranks could care less and continue to crush the unleveled player repeatedly in the mv for pres loss.
Well, palestar. I've heard it before how you hate to see new people go, but the continual abuse of the system, bugs, and re-versioning balance actually make it unbalanced for the new players. The game is so unbalanced for the new player at this point trying to rank up and get new ships. It does not make sense for me to throw money at a pay to play game if I cannot get anywhere with it. I would think most other logical people would see it the same way. If you want players to stay I would suggest enacting pres loss on the higher ranks only and let the others level up in a timely fashion so they can participate in the mv sooner and not become as frustrated with the inadequcies of the game itself.
I have unsubbed, I do not intend to resub after my subscription ends. I would also like to know how I can get involved in the devel. of the game or offer to host a mv server. I'm trying to still like the game and would love to support it as it IS a very cool MMOG. Let me know if I can hel pin any other way.

when i was a newb in this version i found it very easy to get pres, and fight along side the vets in combat, as well as stay alive in combat. but all in all you work around the bugs and find some enjoyment with in the game.

just feel i have to point out that a qualitative measurement not quantitative, and as such depends highly on the person making it. some people are still admiral after 2-3 years whereas others are in the top 20 for overall pres in that same time period.
carry on.

you forgot one very important thing is when you are a noobie in this version when you spawn a ship you go into the negative credits so, like an extracter for example you cannot upgrade all or any mining beam for maximum usage. using 2-4 lvl 0 mining beams in the noobie sever is slow, and in the mv forget about it. (selling 1000 metals for 19 credits) so i have found it standard to give any noobi 50k to start out... i know i will find some scraps of old ships to recover the credits.

Being the person who just did that to you, i think i got a say on this matter.
Maybe, maybe, maybe you are not supposed to even THINK about bombing a planet on your own, specially not if a torp cruiser jumps in to blow the hell out of you together with ugto fighter bases and icc def bases to block the bombs.
1 death star+1 torp cruiser=boom
get that?
edit: and to give you a hint, next time dont try to finish your bombing run, but directly abort and try dodging my weapons! i gave like 5 full alfas on you before you tried to dodge, meaning you were as good as dead anyway!

Six,
I was discod and came back with 21 hull and all systems down... there was no way to jump out at that time. That is the point I am trying to make, I never even saw any hits from you until I returned. It's bad enough to get discod on a bombing run but then to come back and be 150gu from a planet and a enemy ship on you with 21 hull left.. you get the picture....

No offense but..score
Anyways, the developers also lead other lifes than JUST DS...I know i've bitched, and everyone else bitches, but their humans too, they cant devote every single minute of their life to making this game better..It'd be nice to know whats going on, sure, but you cant expect constant updates from two people. Eh, I dunno, Goodluck with your wimping out on us :/
P.S. Only way to help, is to sub.

also when caught by a dicter, dont SD so much you lose more pres SDing then you would by just dieing, almost every ICC i've dictered has SDed, some have even been demoted because of it,,,
and another thing, why mine for creds, look for a planet that is low on cryometals, hypermatter, darkmatter, and urdinam, buy it from another planet that has a good supply of these resources and sell to a planet that is low. you can make alot of creds faster doing this then mineing for it

When I was a newbie (and still am in some deeper aspects of the game), DS was v1.4.1 and I found it ok in the newbie server. The game was great there, as it was an almost balanced field. Go into MV, and I get screwed because all of the experienced enemy players know who the newbie is and target me. However, what can you do but learn and move on.
I come back 9 months later to v1.4.3 and find ICC combat and escort dessies overpowered like crazy. As you're in ICC...I don't see why you're complaining about dying quickly and losing pres. I also come back to learn about upgrading my ships. I used to take stock ships into combat which equals free kills. But I learned and now can survive that much longer.
One thing I found about DS is you need to learn the game...it's not one of those jump in, choose your weapon and shoot and expect to score big. No, if you're looking for a game like that, DS isn't it. Thankfully in UGTO there are plenty of experienced players who are willing to help you, answer any questions you have. I agree there are some players who are not as kind to newbies, but I'm glad that's only a minority. I've tried out ICC once in MV...but never again.

Actually I would choose the newb as the last target, or who do you want to shoot first in CS...the pro gamer, or the newb who hardly knows how to move?

The pres loss is pretty bad, I really don't see any reason for it. Maybe if this game had 100s of players and the pres/combat is constantly flowing, but it isn't and at the moment it only puts people off. They should be encouraging people to level up and just have fun, so they get all their mates to join to.
The regular players here have mostly been playing for a very long time. Any new players don't stand a chance against some FA/GA in a modded up dread, this totaly rules them out of combat because frigates etc die in 1 alpha or get ripped appart just by splash damage. You jump in at the wrong time, or lag into a planet and boom you lost lost about 2 hours of pres and maybe a level, especially if your in a dread or station.
No one wants to risk anything in combat, so things often turn out to be dull....

tough you got a point with press loss, there are a lot of spawning bugs and lag deaths, and you lose a lot of pres with it.
Maybe lower resources lost even more?

Same reason the Vets have.

Well after almost 3 month off DS i selected to start up my sub again just recently
I still think DS one of my favorite online games with lots of potential, agreed it have it flaws.
The ways for new players to start (rank) up is to few; there are bugs the needs to be sorted out and the game need to continue expanding.
Richard have other things to do, to get butter on his bread, have dropped the game on hold for now, but I know as soon as he find the time, to really get it on, something is gonna happen and I will happen fast so our heads spin.
I see this version as an transition version of DS, its bad, every time I log on to play I expect and do lose 1 k prestige in my play time, but I don’t care if I have some fun in that time.
I will support ds as long as there is hope or someone blow up the server with my profile on (good forbid)
I don’t want to run for the hills just yet or try to take shortcuts, silly me still play K'Luth
So you guys (girls) just hang on
It will be better someday soon
Yours sincerely always present in the mv
Ragg
