A. Syllogisms (a type of Deductive reasoning)
Syllogisms consist of three parts:
1. general statement ("universal")
2. particular example
3. conclusion
1. All plants in which sap solidifies at the joint between leaf and stem in autumn are deciduous.
2. All oak trees have sap that solidifies at the joint between leaf and stem in autumn.
3. Therefore, all oak trees are deciduous.

B. Inductive Reasoning
Antecedent:
This fire warms,
And this fire warms,
And this fire warms, etc.
Consequent:
Therefore every fire warms. (Fund. of Logic, 114)

just some examples, but maybe that helps some
so for making observations based off a generalization from one example you'd use deductive, and for obser...(train of thought got derailed) observations based on generalizations based on multiple examples you'd use inductive. i think.

I say ol chap, I can deduct that this all these people were killed by the same person. They all have a curved blade cut, all have handcufs, and all were laid on a street begining with the letter A.
If the apples on this tree are green and taset bitter, and the apples on this tree are green and taste bitter, and the apples on this tree are green and taste bitter; we can induce that all green apples on a tree will taste bitter.
From Dorans post I can deduct that he did a search and found a glossory with examples, based on the exact formating of the lines and the specific puncuation used that I know Doran would never do.
And if you ask what the answer is of a number multiplied by itself is, I can induce that the answer will be the number squared because it allwas was so it allways will be.
Good understanding of it in plain (almost) english
Deductive http://uk.geocities.com/balihar_sanghera/carcpositivism.html
