Which do YOU prefer? I've heard the incinerator is rather crappy, and I've heard the ion cannon is way better than the QST.
What's the purpose of each one? I know QST has good splash damage, and I was told ion cannon is good for disabling ships that have already sustained damage.
So I'm thinking
QST is best for armor and hull damage with splash, good for first strike
Ion cannon is best for disabling systems with splash, after target is already damaged
Incinerator is ? (hull damage with no splash?)
But I could be wrong. I just want to know a little more about these core weapons. QST I remember from long ago but the others I'm unfamiliar with.

Right.
SI has the HIGHEST direct hit damage. It mauls away at armour and hull, but has REALLY small splash damage.
IC, like the SI, but only does massive systems damage (kills 100% of systems), and some hull and armour damage too.
QST, has the least damage on impact to armour and hull, but has a splash radius of 250gu.

Cool. Does the ion cannon have to pierce armor and shields fully before it does system damage? I would think it does. Like an emp or flux cannon.

Yeh, and it can do armour + hull aswell, so if you usualy have 10% armour, you'll definatly hit.
