A few days ago, in the wee hours of the early afternoon, I somehow managed to break both of the working computers in my house. This wouldnt be such a problem, except for the fact that I am a computer illiterate fool on par with a certain R. S. Pear.

So how could something this disatorous, this catastrophic happen to me? Well, aside from my morbid obesity, it was probably one of the largest problems in my life at the time. Can you tell I don't do much aside from drink too much? Anyways, back to my tale of fairies and computers...

I needed Windows Mediaplayer for something absolutely trivial, and rather than download it (because, let's face it, downloading things other than porn on 56k are not worth my time), I figured I would just use my Windows disk to reinstall selected components back onto the computer. Screwing my computer more than Archimedes did his screw, I left the computer in a half restored state. Half Windows, half....nothing. Uh oh.

What to do? I figured I'd just use the Hard Drive from my other computer with Windows and boot it with that, and go from there. Bad idea. That didnt work, and put that drive back in its place screwed up the BIOS and it wouldnt boot properly. Now, not only was I up a creek without a paddle, but my canoe was leaking. So I reinstalled Windows there, lost all my good stuff, and now have the family computer working at the speed of GothThug after a night of binge taco eating. No sound, no virus, DS borked, email borked...my head hurts.

Someone save me. And if I dont log on for awhile, don't worry, I'm still around somewhere, lurking. Watching you all...(please don't cut down those bushes outside your bathroom window, thanks!)

I've messed up my computer a few times (In fact, one of my HD's is still &%??&@!!ed right now..).

One way you could try and do is repair the Windows Installation. Just boot up the Operating System disc (or whatever...), select the drive with the Windows install and hit 'R'. This will start the repair process which could take at least an hour or so.
Once it's done, you'll need to reinstall the drives, applications maybe and all that... But, you will lose no files or anything.

Now.. where did them files go so I can repair my F drive... *looks all over comp*

The bios problem is fixable, I'm pretty sure. So I wouldn't go to wiping anything just yet bito. Also Shippo I have never been able through at least 100 windows installs to get windows repair to actually work. It will always insist that there is no installation of windows present, therefor cannot be fixed.

*thinks* Always worked for me so far. It should appear in that menu. I really don't know what you could of done to it to the point where it doesn't even show up. It's always showed up for me and such...

Default the bios back to its factory settings.

Download all drivers you need, IE: Motherboard (chipset), Graphics Card (this can actualy slow down your machine if you dont installed them, so this is one of the more important onces), Sound Card.

Those are the 3 things needed t obasicly get any system up and running and working.

I think what you're describing may be a proprietary repair software...aka, something Dell, HP, etc produced. Windows is, well, Windoze.

Most likely, Bito, you need to start over from scratch. It's already toast - give it up and get er done!

I agree, HP arnt the best for generaly...doing anything. Its really just a case of trying to push the most out of it now though by updating drivers.

Gratz on your 1000th post aswell.
