You know, some of us that play DS, play it useing a voice chat program like ventrillo or team speak. Alot of players here either don't know about such applications or don't know how to properly adjust the settings to make it work.
I have seen countless times when players on the same faction try to get organized by the in-game text chat (more so the new people) and just can't seem to do it cause it takes soo long to issue comands to your team and hope that they read the msg only to find yourself retyping and repeating yourself several times due to that person or people are or were either in combat, modding a ship or changing ships and didn't notice the msg or command. (wow, long sentance..lol) It just takes alot of time to organize an attack.
I have an idea and I hope I can get some positive feedback so Richard might concider implimenting this into DS. What about codeing in voice chat instead of or in conjunction with text chat. For instance, 10 people enter the MV on UGTO and all of them are automatically connected to a UGTO - MV voice chat. Same for Kluth and ICC. We will be able to coordinate the team more effectivly and coordinate attacks, escorts, res recon faster and better then before.
I am not sure if this will add lag to the servers and decrease the game play rather then help it. What do you think?

I know I have a problem trying to stay alive via maneuvering and chatting at the same time in responding to orders and such. Folks should just use TS or Ventrilo or whichever is best at the clan level.
It would introduce more lag to have it implemented, and there is no way it could be done quickly and efficiently right now. Beta has precedence, as the goal is getting DS to where it needs to be for happy present and future players (meaning customers) so secondary issues can be addressed. I can't think of any game released lately that has voice built in, but there may be a few-most companies realize the problems, lag or otherwise, and know there is enough third party programs out there that voice chat isn't something they need to deal with.
After a little thought, they should put in an Evasive Manuevers key, that tries to circle your target of choice at whatever your current speed is, or does random left right jinks. At least that way you can chat easier for a second or five, or be a little more manual with your weapons systems. Might not be that hard to do, and doesn't seem unfair.

Well i really didnt mean for them to code it in RIGHT NOW. And after doing some thinking, I don't think it will cause hardly any lag as I can run team speak AND DS on a dial up and it not lag any worse than not running Team Speak. And if Richard has an old 1 ghz system or can get one to run the voice server on then that will take care of the lag fears.
Just throwing some thoughts out.

And thats another piont to my sugg. My clan uses ventrillo. Great. But one problem with that is if my CLAN is not on or just one or two of them are on at the time I am or you are. With 3 clan members on at once, we can voice chat and cordinate and attack on what, a fleet of 3 or 4. If we could voice chat with the other 10 FACTION members then we might get something done alot easier with the other 10 opposing faction fleet members instead of just the 3 or 4. I hope I didn't make that too confusing.

DarkSpace has voice communications implimented I believe, its just not enabled due to server bandwidth and lag etc.

Nope, not confusing-I knew what ye meant. It would just require all the faction to get on that Ventrilo server. That isn't as impossible as coding it in, but highly unlikely in practice. I wouldn't mind joining an ICC voice collaboration of this sort, but don't have the resources myself and high player count time slot to benefit from it.
As for voice being coded in, its not the player's connection lag that's an issue, its the internal lag from the MV server I think. That could be anything from inefficient packet sizes/handling to redundant position info, to I have no idea-that's pretty much outside my area of expertise.

well i have an solution that dont takes bandwith i surgestet something similar some time ago (long time ago)
command control interface
where you have predefined messages and orders you can send to your fleet fraction (enemy)
like push key combo : message pops up
cupple it wih an text file where you can make your own custom text
would also solve an problem with teaching new players for ex how to you use sy or mod your ship or just basic shipcontrol
so you dont have to type the same line like 100 times (as ido )
would also be more easy to me
ctrl.1 : /y flux lamers
ctrl.2 : /faction get mousy he is bombing /t
ctrl.3 : /faction get nim he is bombing /t
ctrl.4: /faction darn laaaag
ctrl.5: /faction im fed up with this im logging
CTrl.6: /faction going to get beer
probaly in that order to
/t = target in nav
get my drift
