i came back after a long time of not playing darkspace and i noticed that MV is now open to all. I'm presuming that less people play and you had to open it up to allow new people to get a taste of MV. Maybe to get the new people more interested in the game, you could set the demo account maximum presteige to whatever the presteige needed to be lieutenant commander (just like the rank in newbie) or lower? You could set it to ensign just to give the people that cant afford to play to try out at least the 'next' level of ships.

I actually like the idea, too. I can't really add much of anything to it or describe why I like it... I just... like it.
There is, however, one major fault that I find.
By setting a limit of prestige on all demo accounts up to... oh... heck, even Ensign... it might give players that've been around DarkSpace for a while that less of a reason to resubscribe. And, with the limits going up, so would the desire. And, what you first proposed... Lieu Commander? That gives access to some of the destroyers, there... and destroyers can actually be rather powerful in mass numbers or in the hands of an experienced player.
So, yeah. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I'm having nightmares of dreadnoughts being swarmed by bunches of unsubscribed destroyer players.
...Other than that, though, it's a nice idea.

it feels great that a number of people agree with me on this but maybe yeah it should be stuck only to the ensign. lieu commander is too much i agree

Yeah, Ensign sounds nice. dessies are too much for unsubbed. maybe 1st Lt since they get all frigates then.

God forbid we don't use the blanket coding...
Is there a way to limit the ranking to Lt. Commander while also limiting some of the ships...like say the combat ships? I'm sure those crazy supply ships aren't too scary for some of the vets (myself not included), and even for ICC, who happen to have 456 types of engineering ships...well, you could limit those too.
Point being, use code to limit a few combat ships the LT. Com. can get, and *BAM!*, you got yourself a wanting demo account.

perhapse we clould limit them to stock ship's, no modding and no garage, and nothing better than Lt.Com lvl base ship's. As demo account's that way as they get pwnd by other player's with modded low lvl ship's they'll sub to get revenge.

I like the Idea, anything we can do to support the bringing in of new people and filling out the ranks of the fleets always has to be #1 in my book.
As for a LtCmdr Cap, on new player rank, thats cool but it would have to be tweeked a bit for each Faction.. due to the fact that the Kluth have powerfull dessys, and filling the kluth ranks with more destroyers wouldnt be to kind to the other factions.. But Im probably missing some more factors in this discussion, due to the fact i havent been a very active player over the last 6months.
Overall, Good Idea m8, keep em comming!
